Ishida Nordic is focusing on sustainable solutions within the food industry.

After establishing a strong Nordic organization over the past two years, Ishida is ready to showcase its broad portfolio of solutions for the packaging industry at Scanpack. With over 15 years of experience in partnerships in the Nordic market, Ishida focuses on meeting the increasing demand for more efficient, safer, and sustainable packaging processes, especially within the food industry. We spoke with Martin Willner, Sales Manager at Ishida, who shares more about Ishida’s offerings in the packaging market.

At this year’s Scanpack, they will present their latest technological advancements, including new energy-efficient tray sealers, advanced X-ray machines, and the latest generation of multihead weighers, which together form Ishida’s comprehensive range of turnkey solutions.

What will you present at Scanpack?

Following 15 years of partnerships on the Nordic market, Ishida has now had a Nordic organisation for the past two years. Ishida is meeting the increased demand on the market by having a local organisation that offers direct contact on complete solution projects for packaging processes, particularly among food manufacturers. Projects striving for increased efficiency, high product safety and less waste are common, and here Ishida is able to assist with both product support and the products it has developed itself.

Ishida is best known as a market-leading manufacturer of multihead weighers, so we would like to tell you about the breadth of what Ishida offers within the majority of our other products/applications designed for companies’ packaging processes.
We will be showing:

— Ishida’s new series of tray sealers, with their increased capacity and 50% less energy consumption compared to previous models. This series of models has also been developed with the focus on simplicity in changing tray tools, as well as on reducing the amount of space that the machines require.

— A new model of X-ray machine with a superior detection level, thus opening up more food industries such as fish. All of this while retaining its speed and precision

— As a leading supplier of multihead weighers, we will be showing the latest generation of AS, with its increased speed, accuracy and precision. This will pave the way for new applications with ‘thicker’ products, such as grated cheese.

What challenges do you see in today’s packaging industry and how do you address them?

Food waste is one of a number of challenges. In Sweden alone, this amounts to 117 kg per person, of which the food industry accounts for 25% according to the latest statistics from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. Here, there are big opportunities to reduce the manufacturers’ share of this. Our comprehensive approach has already helped many customers on our projects. Among other things, we can mention that Ishida uses AI in some parts of its range of options in order to improve the processes.

Automation has been in progress for a long time. Here, too, it is important to have a comprehensive solution – one where the various parts are able to communicate and guide each other. This is something that Ishida is focusing and working on.

How do you aim to contribute to increased sustainability in the packaging area?

— Ishida is developing its products to process environmentally friendly packaging materials. New ones are constantly appearing, and here we are very quick to test and develop solutions.
When launching our new models, there is a constant focus on achieving less electricity consumption without affecting productivity and quality.

Ishida helps to prolong shelf life and prevent food waste by performing leak tests on packaging.

Using X-ray improves the detection level in foodstuffs and enables us to check the customer’s own products as well as deliveries of raw materials. This has a positive impact, reducing the waste that currently occurs through entire batches having to be discarded. Last but not least, this also protects the customer’s own brand name, which could otherwise prove very costly.

What are you mostly looking forward to at Scanpack?

We look on Scanpack as the major meeting place for getting together with people in the industry. This is not just colleagues within the industry but also other operators in manufacturing industries with responsibilities in the packaging process. With Ishida Nordic being a relatively new organisation, we would like to take the opportunity to tell people about us, and to tell them that we can offer direct contact whenever there is a need or there are plans to improve packaging processes.

My team is looking forward to meeting new and old contacts alike.
