Focussing on climate-smart packaging: Hi there Johanna Skans!

Johanna Skans is the new Marketing and Communications Manager for DS Smith. This year she makes her début as an exhibitor at Scanpack.

Hi Johanna, what will you be presenting at Scanpack?

“This year we will continue to focus on an inviting, inclusive and inspiring participation, both in terms of our stand and the products and innovations we showcase on it. At DS Smith, we have a wide range of sustainable, innovative and efficient packaging solutions for all types of customers, regardless of size and requirements, and we will reflect this on our stand. We will showcase both smart corrugated packaging, Point of Sales displays and smart e-commerce solutions. As well as lots of other exciting things.”

What challenges do you see in today’s packaging industry and how are you addressing them?

“Generally speaking, it can be said that we are working with a tailwind. Almost all industries and companies today need to package their products in some way. However, like other industries, we see a greater focus and, above all, demand for circularity and climate-smart solutions.”

How do you want to contribute to increased sustainability in packaging?

“We are focused on meeting the demands and needs for a higher degree of circularity and climate-smart packaging solutions. One of the ways we do this is through our measurement tool, Circular Design Metrics, which aims to help packaging buyers make more sustainable choices, both in terms of economic and climate impact. In addition, the paper raw material is recycled by up to 97 percent. A paper fibre can be reused between seven and eight times and at DS Smith, only half of the new corrugated board is made from paper raw material. “We are also focussing on replacing unnecessary use of plastic with cardboard and reducing the air we send in our packaging, thus contributing to a more sustainable process.”

What are you most looking forward to at Scanpack?

“This will be my first time at Scanpack as an exhibitor and I look forward to meeting both industry colleagues and customers in an inspiring and educational environment. In an increasingly digital world, physical meeting places and face-to-face encounters are even more important and enriching in many ways.”

Thank you Johanna, see you at Scanpack in October!
