When we opened the doors to the first Scanpack fair in 1964, we probably couldn’t have imagined how much would change along the way – both for us and the packaging industry. From the early days of simple solutions to today’s advanced packaging technologies, a lot has happened. What has really transpired over these 6 decades? In the 1980s, the Swedish packaging industry stabilized after years of intense innovation. The major product groups had established efficient systems, and markets were more stable. Introducing revolutionary packaging ideas became risky and challenging for both packaging suppliers and users.

By the late 1970s, bulk bags, or big bags, were introduced, reflecting a shift from consumer packaging to transport packaging. The focus on handling, transport, and storage costs became increasingly important.

The focus on bio-based and biodegradable materials is stronger than ever. We are seeing a shift from plastic to paper. At the same time, plastic continues to play an important role, with an emphasis on sustainability and recycling. ♻️
