After a four-year wait: Scanpack is back – and in top form!

Scanpack is shaping up to be an unforgettable event, with a large international element, high-profile speakers, social activities and new initiatives illustrating the future path of the packaging industry.

“The heart of the event is, of course, all the exhibitors and visitors. They are the ones who together create the fantastic atmosphere”, says Anna Lena Friberg, Business Manager for Scanpack.

Scanpack was last arranged in 2018. After being postponed last year, it is finally time for the next edition of the exhibition. “The packaging event for a new era” is the title of this year’s event, which takes place on 4–7 October 2022 at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre in Gothenburg.

Anna Lena Friberg is full of expectation:

“There is a lot of interest in the industry. Everyone seems to be energised by the opportunity to once again meet, network, gain inspiration and do business.”

Five themes

This year’s exhibition has a packed programme. To date, 350 exhibitors from around 20 countries have booked their stands. The event is focused on the future of the packaging industry, as reflected in this year’s themes: new trends, new materials, innovations, sustainability and digitalisation.

The main stage is sure to attract the attention of many visitors, with a number of exciting speakers due to share their insights, including Alex Henriksen, CEO of Tetra Pak North Europe, Wim Vouters from DS Smith, Mike Baxter from Berry Global, representatives of H&M and ICA, and Martina Bonnier, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Scandinavia, which has formed a strategic partnership with Stora Enso.

This year’s event features two new arenas: Scanpack Summit and Scanpack Pioneers.

“With Summit we are creating a strategy conference with an international perspective for decision makers in the business community and the political arena. One of the keynote speakers is Märtha Rehnberg, political economist at the think tank DareDisrupt, who will talk about the impact of consumer power on tomorrow’s packaging industry”, Anna Lena Friberg explains.

Matchmaking for new business opportunities

Scanpack Pioneers is a future-oriented arena with focus on innovation, circular solutions and case presentations where start-ups meet established companies and academia. The participating exhibitors include Billerud, Stora Enso, the Nordic Bioplastics Association, SIS, A Good Choice, Liplid and Micvac. The aim is to illustrate solutions that can make a concrete future contribution in areas such as climate-smart packaging and new materials and technologies; solutions that have not yet been commercialised but may be soon.

“The key point of focus for the Pioneers arena is business development”, Anna Lena emphasises.

“Matchmaking between established companies and start-ups is an important part of the concept. We bring together parties who otherwise might not have a forum in which to meet, thus opening the door to new business opportunities.”

Another new feature of this year’s event is the presentation of awards to the winners of the packaging competition Packnorth Award. Innovative packaging solutions will be recognised in 37 categories, with the winners receiving their awards on the main stage.

Networking is important

The lunch conference Pack@lunch will be making a reappearance at this year’s Scanpack, which also has an unusually rich selection of social activities. There are also plenty of opportunities to mingle after the exhibition has closed for the day, with an After Work gathering each afternoon/evening in the lobby bar at Gothia Towers.

“Networking is an important aspect of Scanpack. We are fully invested in developing our meeting places so that they provide all participants with the best possible conditions to meet and find opportunities for exciting new partnerships”, Anna Lena concludes.
